Privacy-first family location sharing

Your location belongs to you.

KinOrbit helps trusted family members stay connected without hidden tracking. Sharing starts only when you choose it, remains visible, and can be paused or stopped at any time.

Information we collect

  • Your chosen display name and an anonymous device account identifier.
  • Precise location and related metadata such as accuracy, speed, heading, battery level, and timestamp, but only after you explicitly start sharing.
  • Circle membership, invite codes, sharing preferences, safe zones, notification settings, and subscription status.
  • Device notification token when push notifications are enabled.

How we use information

We use this information to show your position and approved circle members on a map, provide location history, operate safe zones and notifications, secure the service, and manage subscription features. We do not use your location for advertising and do not sell personal information.

Consent and location controls

KinOrbit explains location access before showing the operating system permission prompt. Location sharing never starts merely because permission was granted. You must join or create a circle and explicitly press Start sharing. The active, paused, or stopped state is always visible in the app.

Background location is optional and is requested separately after foreground access. It is used only for live family safety sharing while enabled. You can disable background access in KinOrbit Settings or in your device settings at any time.

Sharing and service providers

Location is visible only to accepted members of your circles, subject to your sharing settings. We use Supabase for authentication, database, realtime updates, and server functions; Google Maps Platform for map display; and Firebase Cloud Messaging for optional notifications. Apple and Google may process subscription payments when purchases are enabled. These providers process data only to operate the requested service under their own security and privacy terms.

Retention and deletion

The free plan keeps location history for up to 24 hours. Longer retention may be available only when a user chooses an eligible paid plan. Account and circle data remains until it is deleted or is no longer needed to provide the service. Limited encrypted backup copies may remain temporarily until normal backup rotation completes.

Security

KinOrbit uses encrypted network connections and database row-level security designed to restrict private circle data to approved members. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we minimize collection and access wherever possible.

Children and family use

KinOrbit is intended to be configured by adults and guardians for consensual family safety use. It is not designed for covert monitoring or for independent account creation by children under 13. Guardians are responsible for obtaining any consent required by local law.

Your choices

You can pause or stop sharing, leave a circle, change permissions, disable notifications, or delete your account. You may contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information.

Delete your KinOrbit account

The fastest method is in the app: open Settings, choose Delete my account and data, and confirm. Deletion is permanent.

What will be deleted

  • Saved location history and current location
  • Location-sharing, safe-zone, and notification settings
  • Device notification tokens and subscription association

If you cannot access the app, email us with the display name used in KinOrbit and any optional circle details that help identify the account. Do not send precise location data or passwords.
